Hey, we know that a $75.00 Buck 119 or a $200.00 Essee 6, is more than some people want to spend. I have seen some of you guys do incredible things with budget steel! These stainless steel knives are tough and will resist the edge chipping seen in higher grade steel. One of my favorite features of budget steel, a honing steel will bring the edge back in tune quickly, and greatly extends the time between bench sharpening.
IF YOU DO pull a Tarzan with one of these knives, and send pictures, We will absolutely immortalize you in blog pages, right here, at furandfish.com (We in no way recommend that you jump forward out of a tree onto a live animal with an open blade. Knife responsibly!)
First up:
Sharp's Cutlery Cross Hunter, it's a Bowie style hunting and camping knife, sized comparable to the Classic Buck 119, at an absolute BUDGET price, shipped new, in a nice factory box. Stainless steel means it's going to hold that bright finish for a long time, safe for food prep and processing. Can just as easily be used for your Utility, non-food outdoors knife. The sheath is a solid belt loop style, but it carries the knife low, just a bit above the belt. It has a fold-over insert to keep the sheath open and looking good. The steel is tough and rugged enough to hold up to some mean use. Bigger overall than the Buck 119, still comparable sized. The Pakka wood handle actually looks nice and isn't as plastic as the 119's phenolic handle. Just a little brass in the grooves on the bolsters. Full tang, very strong design, impressive actually.
If that's a little too big, It's Also Available in a smaller 8" version. I'm really fond of the smaller version:
Next up:
The American Hunter. It's made with a healthy, thick piece of steel. The nylon sheath is a mid dangler style left-hand, that could be carried right hand for the blade down and edge forward defense draw. Carries low, below the belt. That leather strip on the sheath could be attached to the knife, and might keep you from dropping it out of the stand. A leg tie could be added on the sheath bottom for better draw performance, and keep it from stabbing into everything when sitting or walking, or to keep it upright vertical on the backpack. The stag-look handle is easily cleaned and the stainless steel is stain and corrosion resistant. Good food prep and utility knife. The deep belly and clip point blade make it a good deer skinner and processor. Dress the edge razor sharp, or quick edge it with a steel right before you use it. It's a slick little Hunter, for a low budget price
These knives are gaining a good reputation Fast! Don't miss these!
